Advice without clouding the issue

The customers of any financial institution need to know that the systems and procedures they have in place have been designed to ensure their money will be in the safest of hands. For institutions, they need to know they have a trusted partner to whom they can turn to provide and manage those secure systems.

The Tipton has been a successful independent society for 115 years. In 2016 the Society began working with long standing IT partner Sopra Banking Software, one of the UK's leading providers of 'front of house' IT services to banks and building societies, to update its IT infrastructure so that it continued to meet the needs of a 21st Century financial institution.

"With such a major development it was essential that everyone involved was clear on the particular aspects of the contract," comments Richard Newton, CEO of the Tipton.

"Ours is a system that relies on cutting edge digital technology, a relatively new area in terms of contractual agreements so we were keen to work with a trusted partner who could advise us throughout the negotiations on the specialist aspects of the contracts.

"We have had a long held philosophy of treating customers as individuals who deserve personal attention. Higgs & Sons has a similar philosophy and having such shared values was a key aspect of quickly establishing a close working relationship between our two organisations."

The Society already had close links with Higgs & Sons; partner, Sara Shepherd from Higgs' Commercial Property team has been a non-executive director on its board for several years, so the Society was well aware of the long-standing reputation of its Black Country based neighbour.

"The Commerical team were able to develop a close working relationship very quickly," comments Andy Ball, Higgs' Business Relationship Director.

"Customer service is all important to the Society, so Richard and his team were keen to ensure a smooth and efficient transition to the new system.  Due to the technical nature of the software it was an extremely complex situation which required careful analysis and understanding of the contract.  Higgs' experience in this highly specialised area enabled us to deliver in the agreed timescales to meet the needs of the Society and ultimately, its customers."
