As part of the government's highly publicised Apprenticeship initiative, leading Midlands law firm, Higgs & Sons has taken on an apprentice Legal Accounts Technician as the firm continues to develop and invest in its employees.
Nicholas Brindley joined the Finance team at Higgs & Sons this month. Alongside his role, Nicholas will be studying for his AAT Level 2 Qualification at Dudley College, after which he hopes to go on to study the Level 3 and Level 4 AATs in order to become a fully qualified accountant.
Steve Chaplin, Financial Controller at Higgs & Sons said, "Higgs is positively engaged in developing skills in its young people and we were delighted to welcome Nick to the firm. Everyone has been keen to welcome a young person who is full of enthusiasm to learn about all aspects of legal finance.
"We are also pleased to be supporting the government's Apprenticeship scheme by investing in a young person just starting out on their chosen career path. We hope that other organisations in the region will follow suit and embrace this important initiative."
After finishing sixth form in 2014, Nicholas enrolled onto an engineering course, but soon decided it wasn't the right career path for him. He then spent a year working in retail whilst considering his future.
"I knew that retail wasn't the right career for me, so I started researching accounting and finance where I felt I could better use my numerical and business abilities," comments Nicholas.
It was shortly after Nicholas enrolled at Dudley College to study for his AAT qualification that Higgs & Sons approached the College looking for prospective apprentice candidates. Nicholas successfully applied for the position and after two years in the retail sector he was finally able to pursue his ambitions to become an accountant.
"I am very excited to be starting my career in the finance team at Higgs & Sons," continues Nicholas. "Everyone here has been extremely welcoming and I am certainly eager to learn the ins and outs of the legal finance industry."
Simon Lord, Senior HR adviser at Higgs commented, "Here at Higgs & Sons, it is in our blueprint to nurture young talent, and focus on creating an inspiring environment for our people.
"The apprenticeship scheme is a fantastic route for young people who are keen to start working in their chosen areas so that they can gain valuable experience whilst studying for their qualifications. We are very much looking forward to supporting Nicholas in developing his career in legal finance."
