Traffic officer appointed law firm motoring advisor
Article date: 24/08/2016
A former police officer with more than 15 years of experience as a Traffic Officer is joining a West Midlands law firm as a specialist motoring advisor.
Peter Rawlins has been appointed Senior Legal Advisor in the Private Criminal / Motoring team at Higgs & Sons.
His arrival is particularly timely as August is National Road Victim Month when victims of road accidents are remembered, and awareness is raised of how devastating road accidents are and how they can impact on people's lives.
Peter completed more than 30 years of service with West Midlands Police as a Constable and Sergeant. During that time he experienced a wide range of Police roles from uniformed beat and emergency response officer to planning and participating in major events such as political party conferences, the Papal visit and FA Cup semi-finals.
Peter will work with partner and department head Catherine Junor, a leading motoring lawyer in the region. She said: "Our motoring and private criminal teams cover two highly specialised areas of law; private motoring offences and private criminal matters. Within each area there is a unique responsibility to represent the client with expertise, professionalism and discretion in what are often highly emotive circumstances.
"Peter's 15 years as a traffic officer will bring to the department real life experience, hard hitting insider knowledge and a practical understanding of the field and I am very much looking forward to putting that knowledge to good use."
National Road Victim Month was established in 1998 by the RoadPeace organisation. A number of events will be held throughout the month, including a service of remembrance on August 13 in the RoadPeace Wood at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire and a ceremony on the steps to Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on August 31 remembering everyone who has been killed on the roads. Roadside memorials of flowers and wreaths at the sites of accidents are also encouraged throughout this month.
Higgs & Sons, based at offices on the Waterfront Business Park in Brierley Hill, boasts more than 100 specialist lawyers.
