Summer appointments strengthen Midlands law firm
Article date: 02/08/2016
Two summer appointments are set to strengthen the Employment and Private Client teams at leading West Midlands law firm Higgs & Sons.
Amy Brokenshire joins the business as an Associate in the employment team, having spent the last nine years at Pinsent Masons where she began as a trainee. She qualified in Birmingham in 2008 and practised employment law with a specialism in business immigration law. In 2013 Amy was promoted to Associate within the team.
Amy completed her law degree at St Hilda's College, Oxford and her LPC at the College of Law in Birmingham. Her three young children don't leave her much time for hobbies, but in any free time she enjoys experimenting with recipes in the kitchen or getting stuck into a good book.
Partner and Head of Department Tim Jones said: "We are thrilled to have Amy on board and know that her considerable experience and excellent work ethic can only enhance our department. We were one of the first firms in the West Midlands to specialise in employment law and currently have a highly respected practice, advising clients locally and nationally."
Meanwhile, the Private Client team has welcomed Solicitor Ellie Williams, who qualified in 2015 and has spent almost six years at Irwin Mitchell.
Following university, Ellie worked for a council community development project in South Wales. After travelling in the Far East and Australasia, she started working for the Charity Commission, advising charities on charity law and governance and developed a passion for the law. She successfully secured a training contract with Irwin Mitchell where she previously worked as a paralegal. Ellie - who is a twin - enjoys netball, socialising and running.
Her primary role at Higgs will be working with partner Kirsty McEwen in the Charity and Not for Profit team advising charities on good governance, regulatory compliance and charity law. Kirsty said: "The practical experience that Ellie brings with her will add to our already excellent credentials within the charitable sector.
"Her appointment marks another significant step for Higgs & Sons' Charity and Not for Profit team as it continues to expand to meet the needs of third sector organisations in this region."
Managing partner Paul Hunt said: "At Higgs & Sons we continually strive to improve and enhance our offering to clients. I am delighted to welcome Amy and Ellie and confident that the skills they bring to the business will add to the strength and depth of their respective departments."
Higgs & Sons, based at offices on the Waterfront Business Park in Brierley Hill, boasts more than 100 specialist lawyers.
