Charity funds bolstered by Family Fun day

Article date:  29/09/2015

A charity football match between Higgs & Sons and a team of Wolves All Stars was the main attraction in a day of family fun which raised more than £2000 for Higgs' charity, the Alzheimer's Society.

Higgs & Sons Fun Day on Sunday 20th September saw friends, family and colleagues gather at the War Memorial ground in Stourbridge to enjoy the various activities on offer and watch the match in which the Higgs players had all pledged donations to win a place against the former Wolves men.

The event, organised by Higgs & Sons second year trainees, hosted a wide selection of stalls, items to purchase and activities to keep everyone entertained. The bouncy slide and zorbing were particular favourites, as well as the opportunity to handle giant snakes and tarantulas.

The afternoon saw the highly anticipated football match between Higgs and The Wolves All Stars. The Higgs team put up a spirited performance but were narrowly beaten by the All Stars 2-1, although the man of the match award did go to Higgs' player, Lee Capewell. Wolves legend and manager of the All Stars, Mel Eves thanked everyone for their very vocal support and congratulated the Higgs' players on their valiant effort.

Trainee Sarah Bryan was delighted at how smoothly the afternoon went. "The second year trainees did a brilliant job of organising the event, many thanks to them and all of the attendees for helping to raise so much money."

Tim Jones, head of the Community Matters programme at Higgs & Sons stated:

"Thanks to the hard work and endeavours of our trainees this year's Family Fun Day was another great success.

"The weather was kind and the children busied themselves zorbing and handling the snakes and spiders in animal corner; even the Higgs team were unlucky to lose the match after putting up a spirited performance.

"The day raised over £2000 on the day which brings the total raised for the Alzheimer's Society to £8000, with more events still to come. Well done and thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a success."
