New appointment sets the bar high for Higgs & Sons
Article date: 20/07/2015
Higgs & Sons has significantly enhanced its dispute resolution offering with the appointment of one of Birmingham's leading barristers.
Carl Garvie has joined the Brierley Hill based firm as a fifth partner in its award winning Dispute Resolution department. He joins from St Philips Chambers where he worked as a commercial group barrister since 2008.
"Moving across the Midlands was an easy decision for me; Higgs & Sons is a long established firm with a reputation that stretches far beyond its Black Country roots. I have worked closely with the team, as counsel, in the past 7 years and been hugely impressed with their legal and commercial aptitude.
"The firm has seen a period of sustained growth over the past five years and I am looking forward to being part of its continued expansion as it meets the needs of a region which is looking to the future with real optimism."
Carl studied law at Trinity Hall, Cambridge before moving to his first position as an articled clerk at Pinsent & Co (now Pinsent Masons) in 1984. He became a partner at age 29, before qualifying as a barrister and taking up his position at St Philips Chambers.
A highly experienced commercial litigator, Carl is looking to use his skills in practice development and management to drive the continued development of Higgs' expanding litigation team.
"Carl has a wealth of experience and his skills across a range of disciplines will further enhance our strength-in-depth. Everyone at the firm is extremely excited at the prospect of Carl joining us" comments Julia Lowe, head of Higgs & Sons' Dispute Resolution team."
Away from work, Carl is a keen sportsman and fan; keeping fit through running and trips to the gym whilst preferring to watch football, rugby, cricket and hockey.
"We are delighted that Carl is joining us," comments Nick Moxon, Higgs' senior partner.
"His eminent skills as a barrister and his commercial and management experience are widely acknowledged throughout the legal sector.
"Higgs & Sons has a similarly strong reputation and the appointment of Carl is a real statement of intent for the firm as we continue to build on our recent successes in this, our 140th anniversary year."
Higgs & Sons is an award-winning Midlands law firm, employing over 200 people, based in prestigious offices in Brierley Hill. Recognised across the Midlands and nationally, Higgs & Sons is proud of its heritage and reputation for consistently delivering exceptional standards of service.
