It's not just the Women's World Cup keeping football alive this summer...

Higgs & Sons' Charity Football Tournament is taking place on Thursday 25 June and this year the competition will be even tougher with three ex-Wolves players taking to the pitch.

The Midlands based solicitors' 6-A-Side Football Tournament has grown year on year since it started in 2007. Last year 40 teams took part, helping to raise over £4,000 for charity. This year, tournament venue Stourbridge Rugby Club is set to host 45 teams.

"We are thrilled that so many teams from local businesses and professional organisations are getting involved once again this year," states Richard Griffiths, a partner in the firm's corporate team and one of the organisers of the event.

"With the appearance of three former Wolves players, this year's competition promises to be bigger and better than ever."

Proceeds from the tournament will go to the Alzheimer's Society, Higgs & Sons' designated charity for 2015.

"The firm does so much to support charities throughout the region," comments Tim Jones, head of Higgs' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.  "The annual six-a-side tournament is one of several keynote events we hold each year which help to raise much needed funds. The support we receive is fantastic and we'd like to thank everyone who will be coming along to help make the event so special."

Ex-Wolves players Mel Eves, Dale Rudge and Jody Craddock will be turning out for Wolverhampton recruitment company, First4Staff. The team will be wearing the Wolves' All Stars kit in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, a charity close to the heart of company Managing Director, Jason Guy, whose wife is battling the illness.

"It is fantastic to know that our event is not only supporting Higgs' chosen charity, the Alzheimer's Society, but also helping to raise the profile of another worthy cause. This is what makes the Higgs & Sons football tournament such a fantastic community event and a real highlight in the region's calendar.

The tournament begins at 12.00pm on the 25th, with the first matches set to kick off at 1.30pm. Food and drink will be available throughout the course of the day and supporters are more than welcome.

Ex-Wolves players Dale, Mel and Jody will be supporting Higgs & Sons once again on the 20th September when Wolves' All Stars take to the pitch against a Higgs' team. More information on the event is available by going to www.higgsandsons.co.uk .
