PROTECT launch sees increase in work for family legal team
Article date: 09/06/2014
A family law team is set to expand following the launch of a new divorce service at the start of the year.
PROTECT was launched by Higgs & Sons at the beginning of the year and has resulted in a marked increase in new enquiries. These new enquiries are leading to more work for the growing team, which has increased its numbers on the back of the successful launch.
PROTECT is an innovative new service which simplifies the divorce process for clients. It was created following months of research by the firm with both clients and external professionals who work together with clients to provide a truly joined-up service.
Philip Barnsley, head of Higgs' family team, commented: "We all know that the world of legal services is changing and clients are looking for a different kind of approach. Our research showed that, above all else, clients and their advisers want personal advice and quality, with cost certainty.
"The team collated this research and the end result is the creation of PROTECT, which simplifies divorce for clients by providing tools to assist them every step of the way."
"PROTECT starts from the very first meeting with a client where we put a plan in place. We are able to provide a cost quotation based on this plan.
"We fully understand that one size does not fit all and our new service is designed to help clients feel in control of the case as well as the costs involved."
The launch of PROTECT has coincided with a time of great change in family law with the withdrawal of legal aid and the rise of litigants in person, as well as recommendations by the Law Commission that pre-nuptial agreements should be recognised as binding in certain circumstances.
The introduction of the new single Family Court on 22 April 2014 has also heralded a new era for divorce in the UK and has been described by the President of the Family Division as the "largest reform of the family justice system any of us have seen or will see in our professional lifetimes".
Swiftly off the back of this, the President has indicated that plans should be made to further amend the divorce process, effectively removing it from the court and putting this into the hands of registrars.
Higgs & Sons is headquartered at the Waterfront Business Park in Brierley Hill. The firm employs more than 200 people, which includes over 100 specialist lawyers.
