Higgs & Sons Football Match
Article date: 17/04/2014
Professional advisers from across the region came together last week to participate in an 11-a-side football match organised by leading Midlands law firm, Higgs & Sons.
The game was played under floodlights at the War Memorial Athletic Ground, home of Stourbridge Football Club. One team took to the field wearing the yellow of Brazil/Norwich City, with the other sporting red and white stripes, the traditional colours of Southampton FC - unfortunately that resulted in certain players bearing an uncanny resemblance to an ageing Matt Le Tissier (minus the deft touches and wonder goals).
Whilst the match was far from 'El Classico', there were moments of real quality, with some players rolling back the years. Others, however, rued a lack of fitness or any sort of first touch, and were left to bemoan the inclusion in the opposition squad of anyone under the age of 35.
The Yellows eventually ran out 4-1 winners in a good-humoured match with three second half goals, one being a sublime chip of which 'Le God' himself would have been proud. However, the score line was somewhat flattering and supporters of the Red & Whites will point to some questionable refereeing decisions by Higgs & Sons' Corporate Partner, Nick Taylor, and some wasteful finishing from a particular accountant who shall remain nameless.
After the game all the players congregated in the bar for some food and drink to analyse the game and take advantage of a great networking opportunity.
