Outstanding start to 2014 for legal Finance Director

Article date:  20/02/2014

Higgs & Sons' Finance Director is celebrating a flying start to 2014 with the news that he's been shortlisted for an award in the Financial Director magazine's annual awards and a project that he's worked on for the last two years has been rated as outstanding by the UK's innovation agency.

Glyn Morris, the firm's Finance Director for the last eight years, has been shortlisted in the Business Finance Awards 2014 in the category of UK FD of the Year: Growing Business. Alongside this, the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Higgs and academics at Aston Business School has been rated as outstanding by the Technology Strategy Board.

Speaking of his nomination and project success, Glyn said:

"The KTP is a real group effort, with my colleague, Krishna Balthu and I working closely with Dr Ben Clegg from the Operations and Information Management Group at Aston Business School. The project is extremely exciting and we have been able to uncover insights that will change the way every lawyer thinks about price and service. Working with Aston University has enabled us to access a range of expertise to develop a new approach to our business, one that is driven by innovation.

"It's extremely rare for projects to be awarded as outstanding, so this is very special for both Higgs and Aston. The nomination in the Business Finance Awards is the icing on the cake and I'm extremely proud to be named amongst the very best Finance Directors in UK business."

The Higgs KTP with Aston University received financial support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). KTP programmes aim to help businesses and organisations to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base. Aston University is one of the most active universities for KTPs in the West Midlands.

Higgs & Sons works from two offices in the Black Country - Waterfront Business Park in Brierley Hill and Kingswinford. The firm employs over 200 people, including 100 specialist lawyers.
