Higgs & Sons' donation raises funds for local charity

Article date:  05/07/2013

A leading Midlands law firm has donated over 100 PC monitors to local charity, Cerebral Palsy Midlands.

Having replaced old PC monitors with new screens, Higgs & Sons wanted the monitors to go to good use. Discussions between the firm and Cerebral Palsy Midlands (CPM) resolved that the organisation could sell the used equipment as a means to raise money for the Birmingham based charity.

CPM has been supporting and inspiring people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities since 1947. They rely purely on grants from charitable trusts, funding from local councils and donations from local businesses. This is why support from firms like Higgs & Sons is so instrumental to the running of organisations like CPM, with it costing in the region of £400,000 annually to sustain them.

Adam Siviter, the charity's Development Officer, said: "All of us at Cerebral Palsy Midlands are extremely grateful for the kind donation of monitors from Higgs and Sons Solicitors. Currently, we have raised in the region of £400 from selling monitors to members of the general public. All the money raised will be used to fund the costs of our IT systems and equipment, which we need to fundraise for every year."

Higgs & Sons IT Director, Stephen Brown, managed the donation. He commented: "As a firm, we strive to support local charities and get involved wherever possible.

"It was a pleasure working with such a worthwhile charity and I hope we can find opportunities to work with them again in the not so distant future."

Higgs & Sons works from two offices in the Black Country - Waterfront Business Park in Brierley Hill and Kingswinford. The firm employs over 200 people, which includes more than 100 specialist lawyers. The firm's Clinical Negligence team offer specialist legal advice to families affected by cerebral palsy and have therefore seen the benefit of charitable support from organisations such as Cerebral Palsy Midlands first-hand.
