Higgs & A.F. Blakemore volunteers create seaside paradise for local primary school
Article date: 18/06/2013
A team of 14 volunteers from legal firm Higgs & Sons spent
their day creating an outdoor seaside learning garden for pupils at
Hob Green Primary School on 14th June 2013.
In conjunction with A. F. Blakemore & Son Limited, the group planted palm trees, painted a beautiful mural, built two sandpit boats and purchased play shops, picnic tables and seaside learning materials to create a truly unique and fun area for the children to play and learn in.
Partner, Nyree Applegarth, who managed this particular venture, was joined by other volunteers including Hayley Stanesby, Lindsey Bate, Jamie De Souza, Kirsty McEwen, Diane Saunders, Val Trevis, Geoff Kettle, Sarah Arnold, Debbie Dalloway, Gill Baker, Laura Hopkins, Jo Colder, Stephen Burke, Richard Honick, Chris Hanke and Claire Habib.
Nyree has spent many months collecting resources and planning ahead for this worthwhile project, including seaside grasses, anchors, ropes, seashells and much more.
She commented: "We were really keen to help out with this gardening project and put our green fingers to good use. The area of land we have transformed was very sparse and provided little by way of inspiration for the children to learn and develop. We wanted to provide the pupils from Hob Green Primary with a sensory filled space that enables them to enjoy a bright colourful seaside space, even if the sea is many miles away."
The school's Headteacher, Stuart Brown, said: "The whole school community are so grateful to Nyree and her team from Higgs & Sons Solicitors and A. F. Blakemore and Son. They have made a real difference to our fantastic school. Hob Green Primary School has a vast amount of land but unfortunately doesn't have the funds to develop it.
"Nyree has worked hard planning and organising this project and has delivered a spectacular seaside paradise for our children to both work and play in. We are all extremely grateful."
In partnering with Business in the Community (BITC), Higgs & Sons have assisted in a number of initiatives across the region, including providing care and support for the elderly, decorating a room for Cerebral Palsy West Midlands and landscaping a garden for High Flyers.
