Higgs & Sons 17 - 2 Wragges
Another win for Team Higgs!
Fresh from Gavin Faber's criticism that Higgs were simply not winning enough matches in the BTSS League, Higgs turned on the style and clinched a morale-boosting (and league position boosting) victory. The fact that it was against the team that Joe Cowles regards as our arch-rivals was another bonus.
It was 5 versus 5 with no substitutes in sight. Higgs lined up with Al, Ben, Joe, Andy Stokes and Ángel, Ben and Joe's Spanish tutor. The latter is an inspired addition to the Higgs squad, particularly as some of the other teams have been fielding players not even associated with their respective firms. Who knows where we'd be if we had played against teams with actual trainees?
Anyway, back to the match. Ben James started off in goal with Al in defence, who kept things typically tight, outmuscling anyone in his way. Joe, Ángel and Andy were buzzing about all over the pitch and goals were immediately forthcoming. Andy Stokes, Ángel and Al each bagged hat-tricks (this was a new and welcome dimension to Al's game, although all of his goals were trademark pile-drivers). The captain contributed 7 goals and Ben contributed another one.
Despite Wragges' tricky captain, Vijan, pulling the strings for Wragges, they could only muster two goals in the end. Higgs deserved praise for keeping things tight throughout. If the Higgs players continue keeping their shape in matches and putting in tireless shifts, then the team has a good chance of climbing the league table.
