Graduate Recruitment

Third seat lucky

I cannot believe I am now in my third seat!  The second year trainees warned us how quickly our Training Contracts would go but I didn't realise just how quickly.

I am currently sitting in Private Client.  I generally arrive around 8:30 and check through any emails that have come through overnight.  I can then update my 'To Do' list so that I am ready for the day ahead.  I find this is a really useful way to prioritise my tasks.

There are many fee earners in the Private Client department and the work is really diverse so I find it helpful to make a note of the different matters I am working on to help me keep a track of my workload.

I have sat in on quite a few meetings whilst being in this department and have often had the opportunity to see clients at their home.  Following on from client meetings I dictate the attendance note and make a note of any action points that need to be taken.  So far, I have drafted several wills based on our clients' varied needs.  I have also drafted powers of attorney for both financial and property matters as well as for health and welfare.  I'm really enjoying the diverse nature of the department.

I also play netball for the Higgs Team and we have matches most weeks.  It's a great way to get to know others within the firm and we love getting together and playing against other firms.  So far we're third in the league and are determined to maintain our position!
