Employment Tribunal Experience

During my time in the Employment department, I was involved in a long-standing tribunal matter. My work on the case included assisting the fee earner with the witness statement, communicating with counsel as well as the other side, and importantly, updating the client as to the progress of the case.

I had the opportunity to attend the tribunal hearing which was a useful insight into the employment tribunal procedure. The tribunal lasted five days, and it was my job to report back to the employment team on the events of each day.

Counsel was particularly helpful and often asked for my opinion on many matters because of my involvement with the case over several months.

The highlight of the hearing was getting to know the client. Having been in contact with them prior to the hearing, it was valuable to discuss certain strengths and weaknesses of the case in person.

Bearing in mind the decreasing amount of employment tribunal claims due to the introduction of fees, I am certainly thankful to have assisted with an employment tribunal matter in this way.
