Charity Golf Day

Adam ThompsonBeing a trainee at Higgs gives you plenty of opportunities to get involved with marketing and events. One of the highlights of my training contract so far was organising a Higgs charity golf day at Handsworth Golf Club, attended by close to a hundred of the firm's clients and contacts. Events like this are great for making your name known throughout the firm, as well as meeting clients in person that you may deal with on a day-to-day basis.

As organiser of the golf day, assisted by the other trainees and our events team, I visited the venue a number of times to plan out how the event would run on the day. I also spent time with the chef, choosing the day's food and the golf professional, planning out some additional competitions and prizes to raise more money for charity.

The best part of organising the golf day was of course the day itself! I arrived with a number of other trainees first thing in the morning to prepare the room and set out the prize tables at a number of 'competition holes'.  After welcoming the attendees, the day got underway and I went to a hole where I was supervising a competition. This was great fun and meant that I got to speak to every group as they came round.

Several hours later, everyone met back at the club house for some food, drink and a brief talk from the Prince's Trust, who received all proceeds from the golf day. It was then left for the head of the corporate department to announce the winners, losers and the amount of money raised, which was in the region of £4,000.00!

All in all, it was a great day out of the office.
