'Out with the old, in with the new'
BTSS Election night, 26 March 2015
Higgs' trainees are encouraged to get involved in the wider legal community right from the start of our careers with the firm. The Birmingham Trainee Solicitor's Society (BTSS) is an organisation made up of over 300 trainees, paralegals, newly qualified solicitors and post-graduate law students from across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
As trainees slightly out of the hustle and bustle of Birmingham, we have always been enthusiastic about getting stuck in and being fully involved in the activities of the BTSS. When nominations opened for the new 2015-16 Committee, a few of the first years decided that the best way to get involved was to be right at the heart of it and run for positions.
Inspired by the efforts of the second years, Katie, Alastair and Honor, who were on the outgoing Committee, we thought we would follow in their footsteps and keep the Higgs torch burning brightly in the BTSS.
Manifestos were drafted, sweets were purchased and finally the time had come for us to get our vote-winning spiels on - election night! It was a successful night for the Higgs team and all four of us were elected to the following positions: Social and Cultural Reps (Hannah and Sarah), Treasurer (Patrick) and Charities Rep (Natalie).
The handover from the old Committee to the new will happen in the next few weeks. We're all looking forward to getting to know our fellow Committee representatives and the wider BTSS membership and making the next year (at least) a great one for us all.
Luckily, we've got the guys who have done it and got the t-shirts in the same office to ask for advice should we need it.
